On March 5, 2011, 200-plus rising women leaders (and a few brave, amazing rising male leaders) and I connected at Purdue University during their 12th Annual Women in Leadership Conference. These student leaders blew me away with their insight, courage, compassion and convictions. If these women and men are going to be the next generation’s change-makers, we can breathe easier because positive change is coming!

A college woman wrote to tell me, “The media does not help women’s self-esteem and college sometimes places too much emphasis on perfection. It was empowering to get another perspective from you. We must learn when enough is enough!”

Our generation is going to teach the world that “Healthy, Resilient Women Lead” Will you join us in the movement?

For all the college men out there, you can show your support for the college women in your life by attending a Women’s Leadership Conference on your college campus. You’ll gain invaluable leadership skills, learn how to collaborate with women, and meet intelligent, inspiring members of the opposite sex.

At Purdue, I moderated a panel of powerful women. One young man asked the panel what he could do to help empower women. As you might imagine, his question alone generated thunderous applause. He was told that men in the workforce often band together for power lunches and exclude women from the priceless networking opportunities that lunch provides. He was encouraged to invite his present and future female co-workers to lunch and value their collaboration on projects. His response was (and I’m paraphrasing): “Invite more women to have lunch with me. I think I can handle that.”

For women, it’s our responsibility to include men in talks about women’s leadership and women’s rights because it’s not an “us” against “them” issue. We are partners who can elevate each other. Our generation is taking positive steps to teach the world that we all win when women and men empower each other by forging equal partnerships, in the home and the workforce.

Ever after in faith of ourselves,
